The file size of Global IME 5.02 is 5.20MB
and requires min. 16MB RAM and appropriate
HD space. Please check your computer before
downloading.
The following instruction shows step by step
for beginners, who are scared of doing anything
but using Internet and E-mail (or Sollitaire,
Freecells). If you know how to download a
file, do skip this and just install it by
yourself. If not, first print this page and
then follow the instruction.
- Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/features/ime.asp.@If you are not using Windows 2000 or MS
Office XP (the newest version), go directly
to Users without Office XP and click Install Global IME 5.02.
- At Choose Options, find Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Japanese with
Language Pack and click it. Do NOT choose Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Japanese, because Language Pack includes Japanese
font required for IME.
At Choose a language, click English (You use Windows 95/98/ME English version,
don't you?). Then, click Next.
- Since you don't have any choice for download
site, just make sure that it is clicked and
then, click Next.
- The window File download pops up. Choose Save this program to disk and click OK.
- The window Save as pops up. If you don't know what folder to
choose or have never heard of "folder",
in which the downloaded file would be saved,
just choose Desktop. It's the easiest way to find the file after
downloading. Then, click Save.
Personally, I recommend you to create a folder
"download"in C drive for any downloaded
files. You can choose this folder whenever
you want to download a file from the Internet.
It's convenient and mostly doesn't make a
messy Desktop with scattered files all over
it...
- You can do nothing but wait and look at a
sheet of paper flying from a globe into the
folder (this is the famous animation that
you see while downloading).
It takes approx. 25 minutes with 28.8 kbps
modem. So, you'd better fetch a cup of coffee
and relax.
- Download completed? Then, click OK.
- The file named jamond.exe is waiting for
you on the desktop. Double-click it. A pop-up
window asks you "Continue?". Click
Yes. Make sure if all other programs are
closed before continuing.
- The next window is Licence Agreement for a Microsoft product. If you still have
the rest of coffee, read it through. If not,
just agree and click Yes. The set-up program starts.
- The window Global IME was successfully installed pops up. Congulaturation!
Click OK and then, click Yes, if the program asks you to restart Windows.
- After Windows restarted, you would probably
find nothing changed on Desktop.
Don't worry and just start Internet Explorer.
Do you see small square EN at the lower-right corner of Windows taskbar?
It's the sign that you now have Global IME
5.02 in your Windows.
- Let's see if you can read Japanese on the
Net. Go to http://www.asahi.com/.
What a surprise! You can read all the latest
news of Asahi Newspaper.
- Now, the tricky part. Go to Yahoo Japan http://www.yahoo.co.jp/.
Don't get disappointed if you see all the
documents are garbled again. If you are still
IE 4.0 user, Click View on the IE taskbar, and click Font., and then click Japanese (Auto-Select). If you are IE 5.0 (or greater) user, click
View and Encoding, and then Japanese (Auto-Select).
You would be able to see the site in Japanese!

language on IE (using hotmail.com),
